Heartbreak. Anger. Grief. A gamut of emotions have taken place across FlipGive, prompting difficult and necessary conversations about racism with our families, friends, coworkers, and communities.
We are a company with the express purpose of providing kids access to the activities they love. While not perfect, the field of play, it has been said, can be the great equalizer that builds bridges, transcends borders and cultures. As recent events have highlighted, systemic, racial injustices off the field continue to be the great unequalizer. The match that lights the flame of pain and suffering.
As an organization of white and non-black people of colour, we cannot assume to know the Black experience. But it is on us, and others like us, to listen and learn from people with lived experience and to help make the changes necessary at home, in the office and our communities - to change our course, now.
Every day we strive to uphold our responsibility as a Certified B Corporation to 'use business as a force for good,' but it is clear there is more work we must do as an organization to contribute to the changes we all want to see, now and in perpetuity. It would be disingenuous to say we have it all figured out, that we have a robust plan at this stage. From our product, to our partnerships, community grant programs and company policies, we have multiple avenues to do more in addressing the injustice and inequity that is disproportionately faced by Black people and people of colour.
We all have a stake in unpacking and taking the necessary steps towards equity, both at work and in the diverse communities we are each a part of.
Let’s get to work.
